One of the things you miss when you move to a new city is knowing where to go for a good coffee, or a good cake, or the atmosphere, to relax, meet with friends. When I first went out to a random place to get a cup of coffee here in Belgium it was really not good, planely it sucked. Since then I learned, that you have two extremes – you have places where they only serve a wannabe coffee (very diluted filtered coffee) and then you have places where they take their coffee business to the next level, where you can choose not only the mix and origin of your coffee, but also the preparation method such as espresso, french press, aeropress and V60, whatever you or your wallet fancies.
Ena od stvari, ki jih pogrešaš, ko se priseliš v novo mesto, in se ti doma zdi popolnoma samoumevna, je dobra kavarna. Lokalček, kjer veš, da boš dobil dobro kavo ali tortico, kjer se počutiš sproščeno in domače, kjer se prepustiš uram dolgim klepetom s prijatelji. Ko sem prvič naročila kavo v naključnem lokalu, tu v Belgiji, ta res ni bila dobra, pravzaprav je bila preprosto zanič. S časom sem se naučila, da tu obstajata dva ekstrema – so ‘kavarne’ kjer strežejo samo zelo razredčeno, filter kavo in potem so Kavarne (z veliko začetnico), kjer je kava umetnost, kjer si lahko izbereš, ne samo mešanice in izvora kave, temveč tudi način priprave kot na primer espresso, francosko potisnjeno, aeropress in V60, kar ti srce poželi in ti denarnica dopusti.
Last weekend I decided to try out a new place, called Simon Says, like the game. The coffee house is located in Patershol, an old neighborhood in Ghent city centre, with lots of small bars and restaurants and quite an artistic vibe. We were lucky with the weather so we decided to sit on the terrace and enjoy the sun. It was full when we came, so we first sat inside, but the waitress came to get us as soon as one of the tables on the terrace was freed. The service was great, very friendly and professional.
Pretekli vikend, sem se odločila, da obiščem kavarnico Simon Says. Kavarna se nahaja v Patersholu, starem predelu v centru Genta, poln majhnih barov in restavracij, z dokaj umetniškim vzdušjem. Vreme je bilo čudovito in na srečo smo hitro dobili prosto mizo na terasi, kjer smo lahko uživali na soncu. Postrežba je bila odlična, zaposleni so prijazni in profesionalni.
We went for the silver breakfast menu, where you get a coffee or tea of choice, a glass of fresh orange juice, a selection of mini pastries, soft boiled egg with bread and butter and mini muesli with yogurt and honey. Everything was really nicely prepared, it tasted good and the cappuccino had the perfect foam which is a huge plus.
Izbrala sem si srebrni zajtrk, ki vključuje izbrano kavo ali čaj, svež pomarančni sok, mini pecivo, mehko kuhano jajce s kruhom in maslom ter mini muesli z jogurtom in medom. Vse je bilo lepo postreženo, dobro in cappuccino je imel perfektno penico, kar je velik plus.
I will definitely visit this place again, it’s a nice way to enjoy a good cup of coffee, with or without a breakfast, on a sunny weekend morning.
Vsekakor se bom sem odpravila še kakšen vikend in v prijetnem okolju uživala v sončnem jutru, s skodelico kave, ob zajtrku ali brez.
